SAP for the Renewable Energy Industries

Transforming Industry: SAP Role in Renewable Energy Evolution

The renewable energy industry is experiencing a significant transformation, driven by advancements in technologies such as solar power generation, battery storage, and electric vehicles. This evolution is reshaping the way customers interact with energy, giving rise to a new category of participants known as “prosumers,” who both produce and consume energy. Considering the current population and technological advancements, the Renewable Energy industry is poised to thrive for many years to come. One solution to enhance this industry is SAP software. There are various SAP software options available to support the industry, including SAP Business One ERP, SageERP, SAP S/4 HANA, and others. In this article, we will explore the key modules of SAP for the Renewable Energy Industry as discussed below:

Order to Cash:

Upon receiving a customer inquiry, the engineering team designated by SAP develops finished goods (FG) and generates a bill of materials to estimate costs and plan production. The sales team, managed by SAP, then prepares the commercial quote.

When a customer purchase order is received, SAP generates a sales order, initiating FG production. This is followed by the creation of an accounts receivable invoice and the processing of incoming payments. SAP generates major reports including Customer Receivable, Cash Flow, and Sales Analysis throughout this process.

Procure to Pay:

Material Requirements Planning (MRP) within SAP automatically generates purchase requests based on a Bill of Materials (BOM), leading to purchase order creation. Goods receipt against these orders is processed, followed by payable invoices and outgoing payments. Essential reports such as Vendor Payables, Cash Flow, Purchase Analysis, Minimum Order Quantity, Re-order Quantity, and Lead Days are tailored to item specifics, aiding procurement.

Sales Order:

Sales orders initiated through SAP are based on purchase orders or customer quotation confirmations. Purchase orders are attached using the Document Management System (DMS), while payment terms and delivery dates are established. An Order Acknowledgment is dispatched via email through SAP.

Sales Quote:

SAP provides sales quotations for Renewable Energy Industries customers. Upon confirmation, these quotations seamlessly convert into orders, effectively closing the quotes.

MRP (Material Requirements Planning):

MRP serves as the cornerstone for production planning. Raw material procurement depends on stock considerations and open purchase orders, automatically generated as orders or demands by SAP. This function is crucial for Plan-to-Produce strategies.

Purchase Request:

Purchase requests are automatically generated by MRP or initiated manually based on departmental needs. These requests result in the generation of purchase orders.

Purchase Order:

Purchase orders are meticulously crafted based on purchase requests, following approval procedures.

GRPO (Goods Receipt Purchase Order):

Upon vendor delivery, Goods Receipts against Purchase Orders are logged by SAP, resulting in inventory debits and stock additions to the warehouse.

Supplier Payment:

Supplier invoices are reconciled against GRPOs by SAP, facilitating outgoing payments.

Production:

Production orders are automatically generated as per the Bill of Materials by SAP, considering demand and stock levels dictated by MRP. Raw materials are issued based on production stages, and upon completion, receipt from production is executed, adding finished goods to inventory. Product costing, integrated into SAP, is a critical aspect of this process.

Invoice:

Accounts Payable/Receivable invoices are meticulously crafted within SAP, guiding payment entries through an Open Document system for proper control.

Service:

SAP automatically generates equipment cards for each serial number and dispatched item. Service calls are subsequently created, with associated costs recorded at periodic intervals.

Through these functionalities, SAP operates with full efficiency, thereby enhancing overall performance within Renewable Energy Industries.
